Works in pencil

  • Sculpture 'Disempowerment' by Libby Bloxham. A female torso mannequin is covered in coarse white fabric which is divided by olive green binding into irregular panels that compliment the contours of the underlying shape. The panels contain pencilled botanical illustrations of various herbs and plants associated with folk medicine and wicca, along with their names and traditional uses. The figure sits atop a wooden box with an open front, inside which red and orange felt and threads are hung, evoking burning flames. Behind the fire, a pentagram is visible on the box's rear wall.

    Disempowerment

  • Pencil and collage work 'Contemplation' by Libby Bloxham. The base is a moody, abstracted landscape in coloured pencil, using blue, green and cool purple tones under stark black silhouettes, evoking trees reflected in still water. Layered over this is a cut-out pencil sketch of a nude female figure, shown from behind as if bathing. Insect-like wings cut from white paper are attached to the woman's shoulders.
