Disempowerment (2019)

Found and re-purposed objects, pencil on fabric part of We Can Fly
Sculpture 'Disempowerment' by Libby Bloxham. A female torso mannequin is covered in coarse white fabric which is divided by olive green binding into irregular panels that compliment the contours of the underlying shape. The panels contain pencilled botanical illustrations of various herbs and plants associated with folk medicine and wicca, along with their names and traditional uses. The figure sits atop a wooden box with an open front, inside which red and orange felt and threads are hung, evoking burning flames. Behind the fire, a pentagram is visible on the box's rear wall.
