Works in Collage

  • Collage work "Kitty" by Libby Bloxham. An elaborate ornamental border of swirling leaves and heraldric elements frames a square portrait of some figure in royal finery. Layered over the photograph is a vintage illustration of a woman dressed for a party, smiling at a bottle of Moet she holds high in one hand, while her other hand holds a filled champagne flute. From her back sprout insect-like wings cut from acetate film, one of which is clearly upside-down.

Layered over the photograph is a vintage sepia-toned illustration of a woman in archaic working clothes and a head scarf, threading a needle. From her back sprout textured wings that look like earthy-coloured leaves or petals.

An elaborate ornamental border of swirling leaves and heraldric elements frames a square portrait of an unknown royal or noble. layered over the portrait is a vintage illustration of a young woman in a plain shirt and shawl, holding a thin book in both hands. From her back spread long, thin, leaf-shaped wings that look like those of a dragonfly or similar insect.

A nude pencil sketch of a woman, facing away from the viewer with her hands behind her head, is layered over a panoramic acrylic painting of rolling ocean waves. From her back sprout fairy-like paper wings, their many segments cut out from the inside so the paper only describes their outlines.

Vintage fashion illustrations are laid over white, yellow and blue card, swatches of vintage fabric printed with red, blue and yellow roses, snatches of abstract patterns in yellow and blue tones, and a painting of pink tulips on a blue background. The illustrated figures are two happy-looking young women or teenagers sporting 70s era looks, one of whom has her arm around the shoulder of the other. Acetate insect wings have been added to the women.

  • Collage work 'Connection' by Libby Bloxham. A nude portrait of a reclining woman is layered under countour-cut pencil drawings and inked imprints of leaves, fruits and other botanical elements. Contour-cute insect wings have been placed at her shoulders.

  • Pencil and collage work 'Contemplation' by Libby Bloxham. The base is a moody, abstracted landscape in coloured pencil, using blue, green and cool purple tones under stark black silhouettes, evoking trees reflected in still water. Layered over this is a cut-out pencil sketch of a nude female figure, shown from behind as if bathing. Insect-like wings cut from white paper are attached to the woman's shoulders.
